About International Master of Yachts Training (IYT)

What is International Yacht Training

International Yacht Training provides the highest standards of marine training to both the professional and the recreational yachting industry. The Master of Yachts® Program is an international qualification offered worldwide. With structured courses leading to the Master of Yachts® Offshore and Ocean, International Yacht Training provides the skills and knowledge required for safe coastal, offshore and ocean passage making in both sail and power vessels.

History
In August 1999, Capt. Roger Towner of the MCA visited IYT in Ft. Lauderdale and after rigorous inspections and thorough examinations of our course materials, facilities, instructors and examiners, permission to issue MCA recognized Master of Yachts certificates was granted to International Master of Yachts Training. IYT is an independently approved Det Norske Veritas Maritime Training Facility under guidelines for their standards of excellence for their "Training Centers Management System". This certification is required by the MCA to issue MCA certification for which IYT is fully compliant.

International Acceptance
IYT Master of Yachts Certificates are recognised for commercial use by the MCA Red Ensign Group of countries and independently by the Irish Dept. of Marine, the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas, the Marshall Islands and the Government of the Lebanon. They are also recognized as standards of excellence by the United States Coastguard, the New Zealand Coastguard and the Governments of Western Australia and Queensland where "dual" certificates are issued in these countries, they are, the IYT International Master of Yachts Certificate and the National Marine Certificates.

International Locations
IYT currently has licensed training schools in the United States, Canada, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Sweden, Greece, Turkey, Croatia, St. Maarten, Lebanon, Thailand and Russia with other locations opening shortly.

Career Placement Division
IYT has a career placement division for those seeking a career in Professional Yachting. This service is available to any IYT student who has completed an IYT course in any of our licensed facilities throughout the world. Statistically, 97% of IYT Master of Yachts Offshore students find work 4 weeks after graduating.

Other courses

IYT has developed a complete range of courses from beginner to Master of Yachts Ocean in a modular training format that can be taken in any of the IYT licensed training facilities throughout the world.

IYT Standards
IYT is a professional Yachting organization, run by professional yachtsmen, for professional yachtsmen and issues professional Commercial Master of Yachts certificates. IYT Master of Yachts standards satisfy the International Maritime Organisation, (a division of the United Nations) for their compliance with the international regulations for the Standards of Training and Certification for Watchkeepers '95 (STCW). No professional IYT Master of Yachts certificates are issued without the completion of basic STCW training. All IYT Master of Yachts Examiners are professional mariners who have had a career at sea, and are personally interviewed and briefed by the management of IYT prior to their appointment. Only professional mariners are invited to become IYT Examiners. IYT does not allow "direct entry" to its examination system. All students must complete the shore based theory course, the practical course and the STCW Basic Training Modules. There are no exceptions to this rule. Thus, IYT Master of Yachts Offshore students will have completed 16 days of training, and are well educated and prepared when it comes to their final Practical Master of Yachts Examination.
